Great narrative. In fact a record of history. But the excessive action that occurred evoked a response in multiform. So much violence that was unleashed had reverberated around the world. It was not tooth for tooth but seemed a full life for tooth.

Just a thought

FACEBOOK IS SO OVERRATED !
I feel this way because it is really starting to become annoying. i hacve recieved alot of messages from friends about have you seen yourself on the news, or I saw this video of you and i couldnt stop laughing. One of my closest friends jas told me that she went on the link and it gave her computer a virus ! she had to buy a whole new computer ! io feel that it is starting to enhance its technology , by allowing you to comment on someones changed relationship status, wall post, etc. It even installed a LIKE Button !

Facebook is starting to annoy me, too much potential for stalking. I find that it's a way for egomaniacs to show off about their life. When used in limited dosages it's OK and somewhat entertaining. But facebook isn't real life, it's easy to get sucked into the addiction.

Hi Vasanth,
Nice Essay. I see that you had called for others in the diaspora to express their opinions on the matter.
For Indians in India, their India would obviously be very different. I was viewing the various televised snippets of the reaction of Indians to the movie "slumdog millionaire": India is what people make of it based on where they are in the world. How fortunate they had been, what world view they hold on social justice and what opportunities they have had in various avenues to seek happiness and fortune.
best wishes,
Krishnan

This text is totally manipulated, "Basques and Catalans play for Spain because it’s the only national team they can play for", the author try to explain that all the people in Basque Country, Galicia and Catalonia dont feel Spanish citizens, and that's not true. Only the 52%, 17% and 51% respectively of the people in this regions feel nationalists according to the free composition of their parliaments. It's true that this regions haven't got sovereignty and the power to decide to be part of Spain or not. But it's totally false that they play for Spain because they can't choose, maybe they feel more proudly Spanish than other people in the rest of Spain. For example Xavi Hernández, catalonian player with catalonian name, shout "¡viva españa!" (long life spain) when he was celebrating the EuroCup. By the way, I'm not spanish nationalist neither vasque, but this text is really confusing and incorrect about the reality of Spain.

I've been to Catalonia and seen graffiti supporting Catalan independence. I didn't say ALL Catalans, Basques and Galicians don't identify with Spain. I said a lot of them don't identify with Spain. That is absolutely correct. Xavi Hernandez is one person who said "Viva Espana", but one person doesn't represent a community.

Ah, yes. Justified Chest thumping here !! Countries with natural resources seem to get into various shenanigans and squander the wealth away. Larger countries have developed themselves (without natural resources) also - Japan and Korea are good examples, and both these do not have a large amount of mineral resources within their borders as well.

Nice article.
I once met a group of Hindus from Pakistan who had come to visit the Hindu temples in India. For every little thing they would say, "Allah kay fazal say..." i.e. by the grace of Allah. Their dress and their appearance (short trimmed beard) was like that of a Muslim. And yet their keenness to visit temples and worship in the Hindu way was remarkable. I could empathetically feel the struggle for retaining their Hindu identity in a context where it was very difficult to do this. Your article beautifully brings out the tension of such a struggle that the cultural-religious minorities have to go through. I am not sure how far such struggle can be prevented, though. Even without any conscious effort from the majority, such flooding of the minority customs is bound to take place --- how long can a small steam survive in the vicinity of the tidal waves of an ocean?

It is refreshing to see a quick summary of all these conflicts, much which have been forgotten or ignored. Keep up the good work, these things need to put out into the spotlight.
